Making Your Parks Shine

get ready to make your parks shine

As you may already know, the Parks Conservancy is celebrating 25 years of improving, maintaining, and caring for Pittsburgh's parks. To mark this spectacular milestone, we're throwing a two-night celebration known as "Making Your Parks Shine."

The weekend-long event will include the lighting of six park locations, in partnership with LUXE Creative, along with community block parties, which will consist of local food vendors, live music, family-friendly activities, and more at each location. We look forward to honoring our many volunteers, partners, supporters, and park lovers throughout the years, as they are such an essential component of the Parks Conservancy's history and success.

ready for take-off

We're gearing up for our new, original podcast series, "For the Love of Parks."

Last week, we gathered in Schenley Plaza to kick-off the upcoming launch of our original podcast, "For the Love of Parks," with a live preview of the first episode. Park and podcast lovers from all over Pittsburgh joined us at the listening event, where they enjoyed pizza from our friends at The Porch, live music from Moonshine Jasmine, and food specials from the Schenley Plaza kiosks.

Millie's Ice Cream truck even joined us for the party!

Special thanks to our official Pizza and Podcast @ The Plaza media sponsor, The Incline, for supporting this kick-off event.

We hope our attendees enjoyed the first episode, and we can't wait for you to hear the rest of the series, set to air on Monday, October 4.

Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming podcast, or click here to learn more.

Beginning September 21, head on over to one of their local shops for a cup of the Riverview Park blend, or you can even purchase a bag of your own to brew at home.

We can't wait for you to try this delightful fall brew!

You can also stop by "love, Pittsburgh" shops in Downtown, Mount Washington, or online to purchase your Pittsburgh Parks and TrippleAAAnimals All-Star t-shirts. This design features many animals who call your local parks home.

Spotted Lanternfly

stop the spread of the spotted lanternfly

The Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive species that has once again infiltrated the Pittsburgh region and several of the parks within it. This year, SLFs have been most prevalent in Allegheny Commons Park and Emerald View Park. The SLF feeds on plants such as grapevines, maples, black walnut, birch and willow, damaging or killing them. These plants have proved themselves vital to Pennsylvania's economy and wildlife, therefore we need to find ways to stop the spread of the SLF.

You can join the effort to help stop to the spread by following simple steps such as reporting sightings, inspecting your surroundings before moving about quarantine locations, and complying with the SLF Quarantine Order.
